With over 30 years
of experience in the food industry, Mark McEwan has made his name
international. Owning two of the best restaurants in the city, having
his own show The
Heat with Mark McEwan on the Food Network and now opening 'ONE'
at The Hazelton Hotel, he has created masterpieces in food for some
of the worlds most rich and famous.
Mark McEwan began his career in 1976 in Toronto's Constellation Hotel. Here he worked under the tutelage of Executive Chef Joseph Vonlanthen. As well as working in one of the most prestigious hotels of its time, Mark also attended school at George Brown College. He graduated in 1979 as a winner of the Red Seal Award. During the summer of 1979, he started his apprenticeship at Switzerland's prestigious Grande National Hotel Commis de Cuisine. Later he returned to the Constellation Hotel where he was promoted to sous chef under Chef Vonlanthen.

In 1981 the Sutton Place hired Mark
as their executive sous chef and two years later he was appointed
chef, making him the youngest in Canada to hold the position.
There he was privileged to cook for some very famous people
including Pope John Paul II when He visited Toronto in 1984.
In 1985, Mark acquired Pronto Ristorante with two partners.
For the seven years he was involved with it, Pronto was one
of Toronto's most prestigious restaurants.
In May 1990, Mark opened the his famed North
44 restaurant. Rated by Zagat as the most popular restaurant
in the Toronto section and rated first in the city by Gourmet
Magazine. Today North 44 still draws in a powerful crowd still
yearning to feast on some of its delectable dishes. Mark opened
Bymark Restaurant
in November 2002 and it received overwhelming praise from
critics and patrons alike.
Mark McEwan recently became a reality television star with
the debut of The
Heat with Mark McEwan on the Food Network. The show takes
it's viewers on a ride into the many kitchens of this famous
chef, as he caters to the rich and famous while at the same
time running the best restaurants in Toronto.
Over the years Mark McEwan has captured new flavors in all
of his dishes. With so many restaurant successes, he is doing
it again. The simply named 'ONE', located inside The Hazelton
Hotel will be anything but simple. Its classic, sophisticated
decor provides the prefect backdrop to some of Marks best
creations. Served with style either in the restaurant, 24-hour
room service or catering to private functions, the food will
be absolutely exquisite. 'ONE' will surely become the Toronto
hot spot for fabulous food and social gathering.
