Our Commitment to Sustainability on Earth Day

As Earth Day approaches, The Hazelton Hotel is pleased to exhibit our dedication to sustainability through our numerous green initiatives. We recognize our own impact and strive to minimize our carbon footprint wherever possible.

Our property boasts a variety of energy-saving building systems, including a green roof, SMART Thermostats, Variable Frequency Drives, LED light bulbs, and eco-friendly materials such as wool carpets, which are the only carpet fiber not derived from petroleum, a scarce and non-biodegradable resource. We also provide electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of our efforts to achieve our own sustainability goals while also supporting the sustainability goals of our guests.

To reduce paper consumption and waste, we have introduced tablets in every guest room. These devices provide our guests with information about the hotel, the surrounding area, and allow them to make service requests and amenity bookings, effectively replacing all paper menus and information sheets.

Our signature One Restaurant promotes sustainable food and beverage practices, utilizing local and seasonal menu options and has partnered with 100KM Foods. We have also implemented eco-friendly practices in our daily operations, like the use of eco-certified cleaning products throughout the hotel, replacement of single-use plastic bags with reusable ones, and the introduction of the Press Reader App to eliminate physical newspapers. We offer Flow water packaged with renewable, plant-based materials that are 100% recyclable, and our Nespresso coffee pods in-room are completely recyclable due to their aluminum composition.

Beyond the Hotel, our employees volunteer in the local community through events and organizations such as Jump Thru Hoops and women’s shelters, donating items to further prevent waste and support those in need.

We are committed to sustainability and are constantly exploring new ways to reduce our environmental footprint while investing in green initiatives that benefit our guests, residents, and employees. So, on this Earth Day, let us all take action towards sustainability and make a positive difference, no matter how small.

The Hazelton Hotel is celebrating a momentous occasion with the awarding of Forbes Travel Guide’s coveted five-star rating for the second consecutive year. This honour is a testament to the consistently exceptional standards of hospitality that the hotel has provided since its opening in 2007. 

Forbes Travel Guide is the leading global grading system for luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas. Its anonymous inspectors evaluate up to 900 objective criteria to assist travelers in finding premier luxury experiences, making this five-star rating an even more valuable accolade for us here at the Hazelton.

Today marks National Employee Appreciation Day – a day to recognize and celebrate the incredible work and dedication of employees all around the world. Here at The Hazelton Hotel, we are filled with immense gratitude for our incredible team! Hazelton Hotel and Jump Thru Hoops Holiday Toy Drive

The Hazelton Hotel believes in being an active member of and engaging in our communities. We always look forward to the holiday season as this is an important time to give back.

This year, we partnered with local non-profit organization, Jump Thru Hoops in support of the youth transition house at The Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (NCCT), and The Hospital for Sick Children. The NCCT and Sick Kids are two organizations that provide vital services to First Nations children and their families throughout Ontario and beyond.

Being able to contribute something small can make all the difference in someone’s day or life. With the help of our incredible team, we gathered hundreds of toys and hosted a toy drive in our Yorkville Room during December.

ONE Restaurant’s Executive Chef Darby prepared a delicious spread of wagyu sliders, Korean chicken tacos, artisanal all-beef pogo sticks, cheese & charcuterie board and fresh-cut crudité with dip to welcome all guests who stopped by to drop off toys as well. It was heartwarming to see our incredible community and Hazelton team come together this year.

The Spa by Valmont located in the heart of Yorkville is a sanctuary of serenity and rejuvenation amidst the hustle and bustle of Toronto.
